Newmilns Food Festival Local food festival wins award in its 3rd year
A couple of weeks ago we were lucky enough to attend the 3rd annual Newmilns Food Festival, held in the small town in nearby Irvine Valley. The festival is run by the Newmilns Regeneration Association and formed part of a whole weekend of food, art and crafts. The playing fields were taken over for the weekend, with a huge marquee hosting 40 food and drink stalls. We have been attending lots of events and fairs in the past couple of years to build up a fantastic future stock list of seasonal, regional goods. Provenance and quality are high priority for us when selecting produce; only the best will pass muster! The festival was well-organised with plenty of catering options, as well as the stalls with plenty samples to try before you buy. Scotland’s first National Chef and Masterchef: The Professionals winner Gary Maclean was the festival’s special guest and carried out a cookery demonstration, making Pan Seared Mackerel, Mussels, Potato and Spinach Saffron Broth.
This week we were delighted to hear that the Festival has won the ‘Best Outdoor Festival’ category of the Scottish Outdoor and Leisure Awards – very well deserved and a nod to all the hard work by the organisers and all who took part. This is a great way to spend a Saturday and well worth a visit next year!
